Located on a large, historic property in the coastal town of Blåvand is Karetmagerens Gård—the perfect setting for a large family or 2–3 smaller families who want to experience a bygone era together. Here, you can take a step back from everyday life and live a simple, rustic life for a while in authentic and scenic surroundings.
The farm is a historic landmark but has been renovated in its original 1930s style, so all the original details—both inside and out—have been beautifully preserved. Every corner exudes historic charm, and with no electricity, you’ll truly feel connected to the moment. Light the candles, stoke the wood-burning stove, and slow down together.
Behind the farm, you have free access to the unspoiled nature of West Jutland. There’s also a cozy glamping tent set up here, where you’ll have plenty of opportunity to spend the night if you’d like to venture out into the open and fall asleep to the sounds of nature. Go exploring among the trees, cook together in the outdoor kitchen, or take a hot shower under the solar-heated outdoor shower and feel the calm wash over you. If it gets too chilly as the evening wears on, you can pull the long table into the barn and let the conversation flow until twilight falls, gazing up at the nearly century-old rafters.
You can also visit the Tirpitz architectural bunker museum, head to the beach and splash in the waves of the North Sea, or take a trip to Denmark’s westernmost point, Blåvandshuk Lighthouse, and enjoy the view out over the dunes.
(The farm consists of three separate units, two with their own kitchens. There is a bathroom with a toilet and a cold-water shower, as well as a lovely outdoor bath with solar-heated water. Solar panels provide power for essential appliances in the barn, and bed linens and towels can be booked by arrangement.)

My name is Anna Cecilie, and I inherited the farm from my father. I come here every summer with my four children—Balder, Idun, Embla, and Victor—as well as many of our friends.
Most of the farm was renovated in 2022, with respect for its history and all the details from the 1930s that are worth preserving. Here, the farm transitioned from being an active farm to providing rental housing for Blåvand’s less affluent residents. It was here that the carriage maker from Oksbøl inherited the farm and remodeled it so that it could accommodate three families—each with its own living room and small kitchen—and a modern shared bathroom was installed in the area between the barn and the hayloft. The farm is thus divided into the Retirement Home, B’s section—which is the middle part of the house—and the East Apartment, which is the old main house.
When we’re here, we often go to the beach—there are several great ones in Blåvand. Blåvand Lighthouse is also a popular destination, as are the scenic Kallesmærskhede, the protected plantation, Hennemølleå, and Blåbjerg Dune Plantation.
Many guests find that when you swap the modern setting for a simpler one, different—and sometimes a bit closer—ways of spending time together can suddenly emerge. And that’s exactly what we look forward to sharing with you.
