The Harz is known as the northern German mountain paradise, with its reservoirs, hiking trails, forests, caves and of course the impressive mountain landscape, it is a true natural wonder.
But the Harz is not only suitable for recreational sports, hiking or relaxation - it is also home to some of the most interesting cultural sites in the country, with castles, mountain huts and all kinds of things to discover in addition to various towns.
And Anja and Lutz's vacation home is located in a dreamy old town in the middle of the Harz Mountains. Over 330 years old, the listed farmhouse was used a hundred years ago to drive geese out of the town through a small gate onto the meadows. During the renovation, the couple took great pains not to "gut" the house and also preserved the original room layout and the rooms themselves, using almost exclusively materials such as clay, straw, wood fibers and old beams.
The house therefore has a very special, original charm - it is divided into many small rooms and offers space for up to 6 guests with its three bedrooms. But beware: two of them may have to pull their legs in at night, because one of the three double beds is a stylish but old bed (with a new mattress) and therefore only 195 cm long.
It is precisely this charm of historic country life that makes the house something very special and the stay a unique experience.
The historic wood-burning stoves, the cozy kitchen with sitting area, the loving furnishings in old-fashioned country house style meet modern standards and comfort, which is why you will find two modern renovated bathrooms and a dishwasher in the kitchen. Children are very welcome, there are two cribs, highchairs and a playground just a few meters from the house and both the house and the exciting surroundings are perfect for an adventure vacation: back in time.

Listed farmhouse from 1687 invites you on a journey through time
The historic wood-burning stoves and original furnishings in the house provide charm, coziness and lots of personality
The beautiful old town and the area around the hotel are really exciting culturally
We are Anja Maria and Lutz - and we love old houses. Our own house is "only" 240 years old, but we had so much fun renovating it that we looked for a new project close to our hearts after completion and found it in the listed farmhouse. We spent a total of 5 years renovating this cultural monument, saving it from decay. The house was built 337 years ago, at a time when the construction of the Palace of Versaille had not yet been completed! During the renovation, we tried to preserve the house as much as possible and carefully adapted it to today's standards. We love the special aura of the house and know that it is something very special to immerse yourself in this period. We also live in Ballenstedt and find this part of the Harz Mountains not only scenic but also historically exciting. From here you can reach the town of Quedlinburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in a short time, or you can visit the Rübeländer stalactite caves, take the cable car in Thale or hike to the Hexentanzplatz.

The Gänsetrappe is a real gem. A beautiful house, renovated with a lot of love, very nicely furnished, very modern. The garden and the covered terrace are also beautiful.
