Historic stay in the heart of Aeroskobing

We are the happy and proud owners of Ærøskøbing’s oldest house, dating back to 1645, which is truly unique, exclusive, and very authentic.

We visited Kjøbinghus for the first time in January 2017 and bought it on the spot!

The house is so atmospheric, with details everywhere the eye can see. We ourselves enjoy being in the house, where you immediately feel the breath of history, relax, let time stand still a little, and allow your thoughts to wander.

The winter silence in the old living rooms brings peace and nourishment to the soul. Time to immerse yourself in books, thoughts, and long conversations.

The courtyard and garden, with fruit trees and views of both the town’s church and fields with grazing horses and sheep, offer many wonderful hours outdoors during the summer months.

We preserve and maintain the house ourselves according to the guidelines of the Agency for Culture and Palaces and know every nook and cranny.

As a recent initiative, we have begun showcasing the house as a museum, hosting private events such as cozy coffee gatherings, storytelling sessions, guided tours, and more. The house is also used for private, atmospheric events where catering is available upon request.

We enjoy showing off the house and sharing its history with tourists, locals, and others who visit the town.

We’re from Midtfyn and both work in Ærøskøbing—Dorte as a nurse at Denmark’s smallest hospital and Peter as operations manager at Ærøskøbing & Rise District Heating.

We are sailors and enjoy living near some of the world’s best sailing waters—the South Funen Archipelago. We love island life and are active in community organizations.
