Thatched house with vines and private forest

You can get an almost Italian feel as you come down the hill to the cottage, located near Helnæs Strand, surrounded by 200 vines and overlooking the South Funen archipelago. Behind you is a private forest with lilacs, wild cherries and conifers. And the large south-facing terrace offers shelter and sun from early in the morning.

Inside the thatched cottage, you'll be greeted by a cozy and intimate interior with a focus on natural materials and earthy tones. The small Smeg fridge in pastel green creates a contrast to the colors and the house's fine and personal ceramics and handicrafts. One of the bedrooms has a balcony, so when you wake up in the morning, you can look out over the hills, Helnæs Bay and the coast of Funen.

You have the garden all to yourself. The nearest neighbors are far away, as you are surrounded by fields and forest. At the same time, the beach is only 300 meters away if you go to the fishing village, where the water is shallow and ideal for swimming with small children or a trip in one of the house's kayaks. If you instead walk up over the fields and down to the Little Belt, the water is deeper and perfect for a morning swim. This beach, which also has a jetty, is 500 meters away.

In Helnæs Forest, not far from the cottage, you can find wild garlic in the spring and mushrooms in the fall, and on the beach you'll find wild and crispy beach cabbage. Helnæs is known for its asparagus, which is sold in the island's roadside stalls in the summer, along with local potatoes and strawberries. The meadow area of Helnæs made is known by nature lovers and bird enthusiasts who come to enjoy the wild orchids and herbs, or to observe avocets, snipes and other birds. You can follow the hiking trails around the area or take your bike and on the way home head past the iconic Helnæs Lighthouse, where you can often see porpoises jumping into the Little Belt.
