Experience a little piece of hippie heaven in the heart of Orø. Here, the stunning views of the garden and the peaceful countryside will get your family into gear. The Telephone House is an atmospheric little cottage made from old telephone poles, and the atmosphere is one of relaxation.
The log cabin has a loft ceiling and the kitchen-living room offers space for the whole family to enjoy the peace and quiet. The kitchen is open plan and you can sit and entertain on the high chairs while cooking. The sofa is made from pallets and the warmth from the wood-burning stove makes you want to pull your legs up and read a book. It's furnished with fine finds, quirky gadgets and pretty, colourful rugs.
The garden has many good square metres of relaxing nooks and areas. There's a small hammock park, two fire pits from which to cook or roast marshmallows. From the living room you can go out on the terrace and here you have the most beautiful view over the water to Hundested and Rørvig.
The summer house is not closed off from the road, but on Orø nothing wild happens, and because there is a duty to wave on the island, it gives a little extra atmosphere to greet those who pass by from time to time. Just outside the door are nature trails leading around the island. If you want to walk around the whole island, it takes about 4-5 hours depending on your speed.

We are Marie-Louise and Mik, and we currently live in Copenhagen, where Marie-Louise is a yoga teacher and instructor and Mik is self-employed. Our relationship with Telefonhus' name was a bit ambivalent at first, as we knew the phones would be the last thing on our minds when we left, but we love that the place is built from old telephone pole beams, as it gives it an incredibly charming vibe. We love Orø because the place is unpolished and the residents themselves are in charge of keeping the island tidy. There's a lovely hippy vibe that we associate with our time in upstate New York, where we lived for seven years. We ended up on Øro by chance, and it was definitely the vibe that drew us in. Here you can stretch your eyes and see far.
Our whole family enjoys being outside and we have fires in summer and winter. There is no light noise here, so the starry sky is perfectly clear. When we're away we like to pick up breakfast bread at the little deli or grab a coffee at one of the little cafes around the island. Other than that, we enjoy the fact that there is not much else on the island but the peace and nature. However, there is also a small zoo, which has the largest snake in Denmark.
Mik's favourite spot is undoubtedly sitting on one of the terraces, where he loves "magic hour" - or gin hour, as he calls it.

The cottage was beautifully situated overlooking fields and water. It was a quirky house with many wonderful details. Maybe a little too many things, and a bit worn (lack of maintenance). But at the same time, it was also a fun experience to stay in their hippie gem on Orø with all that it entailed.
