In the first row to the water on the small island of Fejø, you'll find this authentic black-painted wooden cottage with white mullioned windows. Here you have your very own jetty and the most beautiful wood-fired sauna with a direct view of the Smålandsfarvandet right outside the door.

Inside the cottage, the interior is cozy with fine recycled finds and patterned wallpaper. In the old country kitchen, you can let the smell of home-baked buns spread around the house, and around the dining table you can gather the whole family for dinner with a view of the sea. If you have a family with small children, they can stay overnight in one of the two houses in the garden and cook oatmeal from early in the morning without waking the rest of you.

Outside, it's hard to know where to start. The garden is filled with lovely nooks and crannies, whether you want to relax overlooking the water, the private vineyard or the Swedish-inspired orchard where you'll find the most wonderful herbs. You can also host dinner parties on the large wooden terrace, lounge in the hammock in the shade, let the kids play in the children's pavilion in the tree, pick berries for the afternoon cake or spend the night in the middle of the glorious apple orchard.

And as if that wasn't enough, you're right near the ferry landing, so you can head over without a car and enjoy a few days of slow living away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Sus is a trained economist and teaches Entrepreneurship & Design at Kea. My name is Morten, I work as a Sound Designer in Film, Music and Podcast. I also run a gastronomic foundation that can be followed on showcooking.dk. We have great pleasure in collaborating with the local producers on the island, including Karin Hvidtfeldt, with whom we have created several fantastic events here on Fejø - it is also her and her husband who planted our vineyard in 2009. When you are on the island, visit her winery Hvidtfeldt-gundersen.dk just a few kilometers from our house, buy wine and taste her amazing Italian inspired food. There are many crops in our garden that are organic and we pick them for our own production, if you haven't done so, feel free to pick berries, grapes or fruit trees. We took over the cottage in 2005 and we have since built two of the houses and renovated the main house with family and friends.

We are very inspired by recycling and sustainability - with Swedish ancestry, two of the houses form a Swedish "Trädgaard" paved with Tuscan recycled stone surrounded by the most adorable garden in shades of pink and white.

After a winter bath/morning swim, you can walk in a bathrobe (from April-October) to "RO" Camping just 2 minutes from the house, where you can buy breakfast bread from Pabst bakery in Maribo, known for the Gold rye bread. This is also where you can get the best Cappuccino or Latte, in the most beautiful cafe. You can also rent bikes here. Also visit Pastaprincipato.dk, roadside stalls with knitwear, jams and fruit and the island's recycling Cox orange. On the way back to the house you can sit in the front garden at Schymann.dk, enjoy her delicious home baking, coffee, tea or a juice from frafejoe.dk or a glass of wine.

Fejø is known for Fejø fruit, which delivers to Irma, but also the many other sales of organic vegetables and must in season. As well as several options for eating out on the island, Cafe Dybvig, Ailiah 45, or more traditional pub food at Fejø Ny kro, Centerkroen and Strathenborg Otherwise, enjoy beautiful Fejø with long walks, or SUP or kayaking around Fejø, a trip of about 50 km that can be broken into shorter trips.

We had a lovely stay in Morten's beautiful cottage, located on the sea front a few houses down from the ferry landing on Fejo island. The cottage is lovingly decorated, very comfortable and very well equipped - in particular the kitchen. The garden is amazing and we enjoyed the herb garden and the fruit bushes/trees. The kids loved the trampoline and the tree house! The three bedrooms are split over two houses close together and one annex a bit further away in the garden. The main house with kitchen and bathroom has one bedroom with a double bed. The second house consists of one large room with a double bed and a single bed. We did not use the annex. The beach in front of the house is rocky and not ideal for swimming but you can swim off the jetty in front of the house or take a few minutes walk to a larger jetty which is also well suited to swimming. Morten's local recommendations were great, we very much enjoyed the island and we would love to come back!
