On Sjusjøen, surrounded by mountain pastures, you'll find this charming and distinctive family cabin. Perhaps you'll be reminded of classic Norwegian folk tales such as The Seventh Father in the House? Here you can spend quality time with each other, both during the day and in the evenings throughout the summer. The cabin has no electricity, and the water must be drawn from the well and heated on the gas stove, which gives you the feeling of being part of the classic Norwegian mountain farm life. The cabin is not insulated and is therefore, for natural reasons, only available during the months when the mountain pasture life takes place, namely July, August and September.
Inside the cabin, the feeling of being in the midst of traditional mountain farm life is reinforced. The wood is eye-catching, with classic farmhouse-style furnishings that create a cozy, warm atmosphere. The living room is ideal for socializing, either at the dining tables or on the sofas by the large, beautiful barn door. Here you can enjoy the view of the lake during the day and the starry sky at night, while feeling the warmth of the fireplace embrace you. The dormitory has room for the whole family, and note that the beds in the charming dormitory are named after the farm's cows.
Around the cabin you'll find plenty of activities for both young and old. For cycling enthusiasts, it's nice to know that the cabin is located right next to Birkebeinervegen, where the annual Birkebeinerrittet race takes place. For a taste of city life, you can take a 15-minute drive to Sjusjøen and a 30-minute drive to the Olympic city of Lillehammer, where you can enjoy the vibrant cultural life or a good meal at one of the area's many good restaurants.
Nearby ski resorts: approx. 18 minutes to Nordseter and approx. 20 minutes to Sjusjøen ski center.

Hi, my name is Ingeborg. I am an art historian and have worked for many years with cultural heritage preservation, restoring houses and historic gardens, running a farm, and welcoming guests in historic surroundings. This mountain farm belongs to the farm, and since there are so few of these mountain farm environments left, it was important for me to preserve as much as possible of both the exteriors and interiors. The former barn (which hasn't been used as a barn for 80 years) has been thoroughly scrubbed down and converted into a summer cabin using simple means. The mountain farm is completely secluded, it is completely quiet there, it has no electricity or running water, and there is nowhere I relax better, either alone or with family and friends around the long table and the campfire in the evening with a fabulous night sky above us.
I suggest going down to Aksjøen to fish, hiking on marked trails to Gjestbodsåsen, Midtfjell, or Steinvikfjellet, taking the summit hike to Snørvillen, or walking in the direction of Melsjøen or Hornsjøen. Search for Aksjøen in the UT app and you will find lots of great hiking suggestions. You can also take a 15-minute drive to Åstaelva, where you can rent a canoe and paddle many kilometers in both directions.
