Like something out of a fairy tale. That's the feeling that greets you in Sheena's cottage and the old studio. The well-maintained timber-framed houses with heavy thatched roofs are full of history and detail to explore.
Inside, the houses have been renovated in modern style with everything you need for a lovely holiday. Curl up on the sofa with a hot cup of coffee and spend a slow afternoon with a good book under the exposed beams, occasionally raising your gaze to the green bounty outside. Or soak in the hot water of the bath, your body aching after a day in the great outdoors. In the studio you can enjoy the special atmosphere under the vaulted ceilings, which bear witness to the history and culture of the place.
The cottages are located in the rich nature of Hammer Bakkers, surrounded by wildlife, hiking trails and high skies. Go in search of burial mounds and old forest dykes, or take a trip to Pebermosen. You can also climb Tinghøj, the highest point on the hills. If you spend your time at the house, soak up the sun on the south-facing terrace and round off the day in the barrel sauna or by the fireplace before retiring under the thatched roof.

Our name is Else and Kaj, and we own this old, historic cottage. The cottage was built by the Scottish painter Sheena Page Villadsen, who lived in the house for over 50 years. It is situated in the Paradise Valley in the unique nature area Hammer Bakker, which consists of numerous wooded hills, ravines and heathland.
Sheena started at Dundee College of Art at the age of 17 and later went to Edinburgh College of Art where she studied drawing and art history. In Scotland she met her future husband, Jens Arne Villadsen, who brought her to Denmark. Although they settled in Aalborg, where Sheena set up a studio, they were married in the charming church in Hammer Bakker - unaware of how much the area would influence Sheena's artistic work.
In 1956, Sheena and Jens bought the charming little property in Hammer Bakker, which at the time consisted of a small thatched studio that the couple used as a summer house. Later they divorced and Sheena applied for permission to build on. In 1980 she was allowed to build the small 44 square metre house next to the studio.

Loved everything about the cottage and the surroundings. We went for long walks and used the sauna. Really nice.
In general, it would be great to have a guide to the house. How to light up the sauna, the light doesn't work here and there, if you have to take a bath you have to do xyz etc. it makes it easier for the guests, you don't have to call the host and it feels 'homey' much faster.
