Unique gem from 1920 with murals in Tolga

Gildestova is a unique log cabin from 1920 with a soul you will recognize as soon as you step inside. Builder and artist Andreas Sandmæl left his mark on the place with ten ceiling paintings in the living room, a mural at the entrance, and animal sculptures in the garden. Completely renovated in 2025 with support from the Cultural Heritage Fund, the house combines historical charm with modern comfort.

The house extends over three floors with spacious and airy rooms. The bedrooms are located on the second floor, while the first floor offers a dining room with ceiling paintings, a living room with a sofa bed, and a large central room with a seating area by the fireplace. The modern kitchen is conveniently located next door. The lower floor has a room with a TV, books, and games, plus a modern bathroom and guest toilet.

One bedroom has a door, while the other two sleeping areas have curtains that can be drawn when it's time to sleep.

The garden invites you to relax with barbecue facilities and a fire pit. Here you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings while taking in the atmosphere of this historic place. The animal sculptures in the garden are a reminder of the house's artistic heritage.

Tolga is located halfway between Røros and Tynset, a half-hour drive from the World Heritage town. You can explore the sculpture park by the waterfall in the center, go for walks along the Glomma river, or take a drive up the mossy mountain for views of the mountains. The Hamran ski jump is visible from the house. In July, the village celebrates Olsok with concerts, auctions, and open mountain farms.
