Summer Vacation Postcard from Ebeltoft

Summer Vacation Postcard from Ebeltoft

Far from their everyday life in North Zealand and close to Mols’ stunning natural surroundings, Christina and Jonas are enjoying their summer house life to the fullest. They pick lots of wildflowers, eat ice cream, and go on little outings in the area. Their getaway on the coast of Jutland is a place where the whole family can completely unwind.

> When we’re on summer vacation at our vacation home, we’ve agreed that everyone gets to have at least two ice creams a day. We try as much as possible to find a wide variety, and luckily, Ebeltoft is a town with an incredible number of ice cream shops, which makes it easy to enjoy a variety of flavors. We’ve also just bought an ice cream maker for the summer house, so we can spend our vacation discovering new favorite flavors for our waffles.

> The summer house is located a bit out in the countryside, so we have the perfect opportunity to make fantastic bouquets from wildflowers, and we take full advantage of that. As a result, the cottage’s many vases are almost always filled with bouquets we’ve picked ourselves.

> At our cottage, we’re lucky enough to have quite a few terraces and cozy nooks. They face virtually every direction, so we always have sun on at least one of them. We eat almost all our meals outside when we’re here in the summer, and late breakfasts on the terrace are especially popular

> We simply love Ebeltoft. The old cobblestone streets, the many crooked, old houses, the hollyhocks, all the cafés, and not least the many glassblowers and potters. It’s brimming with atmosphere, and we head into town several times a week.

> Our kids use our shelter often. When we bought the summer house, we figured they’d love sleeping out there, but we were wrong—instead, the shelter is used in the afternoons for everything from reading to tablet time.

> The very best thing about summer at the summer house is that we have time. Time for cozy moments, time for games, peace for reflection, and time for exactly whatever we feel like doing. Yesterday afternoon, it was time to curl up in bed and tell stories.

> We’re at the beach pretty much every day during summer vacation. And we’re incredibly lucky here, because the areas around Ebeltoft offer all kinds of beaches. There are beaches with rougher waters facing the Kattegat, and shallower beaches facing Ebeltoft Bay. There are sandy beaches, rocky beaches, and beaches with beautiful views. We love them all for the variety of experiences they offer.

> I think we’ve been eating two or three watermelons a day. And yes, we’re a large blended family that goes through quite a bit of food in a day. But still. It’s simply the heat that makes us want to dig into those red, juicy slices of melon.

> When we saw the summer house for the very first time, one of the things we really fell in love with was the large panoramic windows in the bedroom. The light streaming in from them often wakes us up very early in the morning, so my husband and I get up, make a good cup of coffee, enjoy each other’s company, and savor the peace and quiet while everyone else is still asleep.

Summer greetings from Christina
