Summer Vacation Postcard from Tuse Næs

> We’ve been really lucky with the weather this time around, so the summer vibe was absolutely perfect. One thing we really enjoy when we’re at the summer house—and the weather’s on our side—is eating breakfast outside. We bought a slow-brew coffee set that we use to brew coffee every morning, and it’s as if it just tastes a little better when we’re at the summer house—especially when paired with a freshly baked roll or a croissant from our local Spar.

> I absolutely love swimming, no matter how cold the water is. If I can get away with it, I’ll happily pop down to the water in the morning in my bathrobe, and then again later in the day or in the evening. For me, it’s one of the best things about being at the summer house. Plus, we have the most beautiful sandy beach, and the walk through the plantation leading down to the beach is simply so lovely and cozy.

> For us, a perfect day at the summer house is a day when we just relax in the lounge chairs and enjoy reading a book. A day like that, where we simply enjoy each other’s company, have a drink on the terrace, and cook a particularly delicious meal.

> On one of the days when we felt like doing a little more than just reading a book, we took a trip into the town of Nykøbing Sj. We had lunch at Lokalkompagniet, the cutest little café with all kinds of local delicacies and a lovely backyard where you can enjoy your meal. Afterward, we had ice cream at the little ice cream shop on Algade. It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a flea market enthusiast. I’m currently on the hunt for items for the little annex we’re renovating, and luckily there are plenty of opportunities for flea market shopping in the local area.

> On cooler summer evenings, we heat up the wilderness bath and enjoy a cold drink or beer while sitting in the water, which is just under 40 degrees. Benjamin is currently quite fond of the Italian drink Negroni, so he had picked up the ingredients before we left Copenhagen. On a starry night, the wilderness bath offers something truly special—you get a sense of well-being, and it’s as if time stands still for a moment.

> The summer house is within biking distance of Rørvighavn, where we always (without exception) stop by to buy fish and shellfish. It’s a charming little harbor with restaurants and an ice cream shop, and there are always kids lying on the boat dock catching crabs. A ferry departs from the harbor for Hundested. We’ve bought a multi-ride pass so we can go back and forth as we please. It’s a really nice trip—we’ve been to Lynæs, which is close to Hundested. Lynæs has a cozy surf center where you can eat and swim at the beach or rent a paddleboard.

> For us, a lovely summer dinner often consists of local ingredients from Odsherred, fish from Rørvig, and a good glass of wine. There are a couple of roadside stands on the way to the summer house, and there’s usually a nice selection of produce at Rørvig Harbor. This time, we bought wine in Rørvig, at a lovely little wine shop in a garage on Smedestræde—we highly recommend it.
