Summer Vacation Postcard from Hou
On the east coast of Jutland lies a small, overlooked gem: Hou. Here, Mads, Fie, and the kids spend their vacation strolling around the small local harbor, hunting for crabs on the bridge, going on SUP trips, and staying away from the TV. They enjoy life from morning to night on the patio, in the garden, or by the water.
> We love strolling down to the town’s little harbor, where we catch crabs by the bucketful every day during our vacation—and eat ice cream! On Mondays, there’s a cozy flea market where you can always find a good deal.
> We often use the fire pit in the garden, and this time we made pancakes.
> We also visited the local farmer again; he sells his delicious free-range meat directly from his little farm stand, and he offers a fantastic BBQ experience, too. On the way there, there are tons of roadside stands where you can buy all kinds of vegetables to take home for dinner. It’s so cool when, like us, you’re used to the supermarkets in town.
> We love life by the beach—the kids play in the shallow water while we relax. There are no cars or big waves here. And of course, we brought the SUP along.
> Summer brings lots of guests, and the little cottage kitchen has been put to good use during our vacation. The summer house is such a lovely gathering place for both our family and friends, where everyone just relaxes the moment they walk through the door. And we simply have the sweetest neighbors out here, so we get to enjoy some great moments together now and then.
