Charming cabin with a view of Tinnsjøen og Gaustatoppen

Embraced by the beautiful mountain landscape of Austbygde, you'll find this charming log cabin that the hosts have christened "Maurudstua". The cabin has a traditional, dark facade, reminiscent of a typical Norwegian mountain cabin. Here you can enjoy the stunning views of Tinnsjøen and Gaustatoppen. With a charming outdoor area with a long lawn, fruit trees and nearby forest paths, this cabin offers a cozy cabin atmosphere.
The traditional Norwegian cottage facade gives you just a taste of what you can expect when you walk through the cottage door. Here you'll find traditional wood-burning stoves, paintings and many small, traditional details. Take particular note of the built-in bed in the living room, which perhaps brings associations to the traditional Norwegian folk tale "the seventh father in the house"? The traditional design choices bring plenty of charm to the cabin without compromising on comfort, as there is a toilet, shower and sauna inside the cabin.
The area around the cottage offers fantastic nature experiences all year round, such as endless hiking and cycling. In summer, you can walk to the waterfall in the forest by the cabin, and swim on the beach in Lake Tinnsjøen, where you can rent canoes and boats and go fishing. In winter, the cabin is close to fantastic cross-country skiing trails in Skurvedalen, ice fishing on Tinnsjøen, and about 40 minutes away from the magical ski resort at Gaustatoppen. The cabin is a short distance from Rjukan, which offers tourist attractions such as Gaustatoppen where you can see one-sixth of mainland Norway, the Vemork industrial workers museum, the Krossobanen cable car, Rjukan climbing park, and Rjukanbadet.
Nearby ski resorts: approx. 23 min to Veggli Ski and 47 min to Gausta Ski Center.

Highlights from Robert
Host since June 2023
- Let the traditional atmosphere, with paintings, wood-burning stoves and old-world details, embrace you
- Enjoy the fantastic view of Tinnsjøen and Gaustatoppen from the large terrace that extends around the cabin
- Explore the local area's year-round nature experiences, such as swimming and fishing in summer, and skiing and ice fishing in winter
My name is Robert, and I own this beautiful cabin in Austbygdi. The cabin is a place I go to find peace, enjoy the view and the sun. The cabin is an old family place that my grandparents who were artists lived in, and is a place that means a lot to me. The cabin is characterized by the decorations and history of an artist's home. There are many family memories here, and the cabin has a wonderful atmosphere that just has to be experienced.
In the summer, I like to go hiking in Hardangervidda, which is 15 minutes away by car. The cabin is 1 minute away from a mountain hut where they serve homemade rømmegrøt. You can also go horseback riding in the countryside and meet animals such as rabbits, pigs, cows, goats and sheep.
The cabin consists of two log houses from the 1830s, "Maurudstua" and "Bjørnerudstua", which are built together with an intermediate building. You can rent Maurudstua, one of the two buildings, which has everything you need for a fantastic cabin trip. When renting Maurudstua, I will make sure not to rent out the other unit, leaving you alone on the property.
It's also possible to rent both units, sleeping up to 13 guests, through my other Landfolk profile. Just send me an inquiry and I will help you further. Welcome to the property!
